The 1819 census of Perth has William listed as having 100 acres. He arrived July 19 1819 aboard the ship Thomas and was "located" to Perth Aug 24 1819 to Conc 8 SW 16. In the 1821 Assessments for Bathurst, William is listed as living at Lot 16 Conc 8 There is also mention of William and Catherine being married on Oct 11 rather than August. This could be confusion between reading bands etc. At the time of the marriage, William's address is given as C6/L20, Bathurst. One LDS record has the marriage of William and Catherine as Oct 11 rather than Aug 11. It was at the Presbyterian Church. William and Catherine had 3 daughters and 7 sons according to one set of census notes but according to another there were 12 children in all. The Perth Courier Index says in the April 30 1875 issue: William Glascott died Saturday April 10 at his residence, Market St, Monro, Green Co, Wisconsin. Aged 70 years, third son of John Glascott of Crescos near New Ross Co. Wexford Ireland where he was born in 1805 and Susan Tree his wife, a native of Newfoundland... leaves widow, 6 sons, 3 daughters. It appears that one son died before 1875. In the 1842 census, William is listed as a tavern keeper from Ireland. It says that he arrived in Perth in 1820 and already had 3 children and 9 more were born in Perth and that he is Presbyterian which I assume he adopted from his wife Catherine Campbell. In fact, William arrived in 1819 at the age of about 15! The number of children is 12 in 1842, I have found only 11. The 12th may be Margaret who marries John Forbey in September 1847 in St Andrews Church in Perth. I thought Margaret could be John's daughter but John stayed with the Anglican church while William and his family attended St Andrews. John Forbey was a carriage maker like Margaret's cousin John Publow. In 1848, William purchased an Innkeepers license for 7 pounds 10 shillings. The Inn may be the one on the Basin in Perth. It was built for Campbells which was Catherine's maiden name. I am still pursuing this. The 1851 census has William as an Innkeeper In 1860, the Wisconsin census says that the following Glascotts are residing in the state: A. in Rock County, Janesville Twsp (this is likely Archibald) David in Dane Co. Madison twsp. Duncan in Iowa Co. Dodgeville Twsp. a second Duncan in Iowa Co. Dodgeville Twsp. William in Green Co. Daughter of John Campbell of Partingale, Co. Perth was born in Scotland and was Presbyterian. She arrived with her family on the ship Sophia which left Greenock Scotland for Montreal July 26 1818. She was 7 yrs old. The notes I have say that her father (John Campbell ) was from Partingale Scotland which is near Perth. Odd that they settled in Perth in Canada! They must have been among the very early settlers since there was no listing done in Perth before 1819 to my knowledge. You will notice that Catherine seems to have been very young when she married. I wondered if I had the right Catherine Campbell but I have double checked against birth dates of children and ages in census records and the ship list and yes - she seems to have married at about 15! Perhaps this is not so strange when you consider the times and the fact that William was only 20 but already had land and seems to have been quite a go-getter! Information from Ann Belanger.
