Individual Note (shared)

John Goddard son of Henry Goddard, Shipbuilder Born/baptized 7 February 1612 at St Mary's Chatham (see St Mary's Chatham PR) 31st March 1631 Henry Goddard sends his son to see Sir John Coke with a model of a ship he has made, "unplanked so that the orlops and beams and parts may be seen". Henry asks that his son may be joined in patent to succeed his father after his decease. 11th May 1631 Henry Goddard tells Sir John Coke that his son is capable of doing the work that Augustus Boat did. 14th October 1631 Henry Goddard sends his son to Sir John Coke to learn what rates of ships it is proposed to build 22nd December 1633 Henry Goddard complains to Secretary Coke that "his son and foreman have been ill treated" No further mention of the so very promising son, presumably John Goddard, so he died between 1633 when he was 23 and 1647 when Henry died. What a blow to his father. Notes sent to me by Julie Goddard 29 June 2001
