Their marriage licence is dated Aug 12 1708. Samuel Foley Esq of St Bride's Bachelor, 20, his parents dead (consent of his uncle & guardian William More of the same parish) & Dorothea Richards of St Margaret's Westminster, Spinster, 17 (consent of her father Nicholas Richards, Esq; at St Bride's. Source: Allegations for Marriage Licences issued by the Bishop of London 1611 to 1828. The Harleian Society 1887, page 337 Year of birth calculated from age stated on Marriage Licence I think that he is the Samuel Foley who was the eldest son of Samuel Foley Bishop of Down and grandson of Elizabeth Richards sister of Col Solomon Richards. There is an old reference in The Ussher Memoirs by William Ball-Wright which says that the Samuel who married Elizabeth Richards was of Ripon, Clonmel and Dublin. This link to Ripon makes the identity more likely. And if so then the Bishop's wife's surname was probably Moore
Year of birth calculated from age stated in Marriage Licence. She must have been born between Sept 1690 and August 1691. She seems to have inherited some of he grandfather's estate in Wexford presumably via her father Nicholas Richards. She and her husband sold it back to her first cousin John Richards in 1718. The Memorial to the Deed in the Dublin Registry of Deeds reads: Memorial 17404 A MEMORIAL of Deeds of Lease and release indented bearing date respectively twenty first of December and the first day of June one thousand seven hundred & eighteen made between Saml Foley of Rippon in the County of York & Kingdom of Great Britain Esq & Dorothy his wife sole daughter & heiress of Nicholas Richards late of the par of St Margarets Westminster in the Kingdom of Great Britain Esq deced of the one part & John Richards of Newtowne in the County of Wexford & Kingdom of Ireland Gent of the other part by which sd deed of release the sd Saml Foley & Dorothy his wife for the consideration of the sum of three hundred pounds sterlg to him paid and likewise the sum of two hundred pounds sterg secured to be paid to him by bond dated the sixteenth day of Decber one thousand seven hundred and eighteen did grant bargain sell release and confirm unto the sd John Richards all that and those their moyete in the Townes and lands of Ballyneglogh Ballyvologue Coolidine [ ] Ballymortagh Ballydamore Garryfelen Tomb als Toomateery one third Raheen Ballytartan Newtowne & Clonmore sert lying & being in the Baronys of Bargy Scarawalsh Ballaghkeen & the [ ] and county of Wexford aforesaid.to hold all & singular the sd properties with the appurtences unto him the sd John Richards his heirs & his exors for ever but subject to a mortgage thereof made by Solomon Richards to Joseph Saunders Esq and to such other encumbrances as were made by the sd Solomon Richards to the only [ ] on behalf of him the sd John Richards his heirs and exors & to no other use intent or purpose w'soever which sd deeds of lease and release are witnessed by George Wandesford of Rippon in the County of York gent and John Sexton of the City of Dublin gent - John Richards (seal) signed and sealed in the presence of us John Sexton James Bosooch (?)
