Entered TCD 8 March 1693/4 aged 16, b Co Wexford. Son of Jeremiah, Generosus; b Wexford Sch 1696 BA Vern 1698 Rector of Kilcommon, Co Wicklow. (Information from Anne Chamney Oct 2000 and Alex Buchanan Dec 00) Had 13 children of whom 10 died young, two were the children of his first wife. There is a will copy dated 1750 List of Prebendaries of Crosspatrick (copied to me by Ann Brownrigg June 2001) reads: "1703 -Michael Symes coll 8, inst April 9 (D.R). He was 2nd son of Jeremiah S., Gen of Midleton, Co Wexford by Miss Fox; b in Co.Wexford, ed by Mr Kennedy, Dublin, ent TCD Mar 8 1693/4, aged 16, Sch 1696, BA 1698. He was brother of Rev Sutton S, Preb of Coolstuffe: was ord D Sept 4 1699 P Jan 5 1700/1 (D.R). His father Jeremiah was the son of Jerh S., who came from Northamptonshire in the time of Charles ll and m. Anne Payne, a sister of the Sec of Jas ll and received for services rendered to Wm lll a grant of land in Midleton and Cooperstown. Rev Michael was c of Ferns c.1700; m (i) Miss Buckridge, of Drogheda, m (ii) Eliz. eldest dau and heiress of Edward Sandham of Rushmore Co Louth by his wife Rachel, by whom he had issue including (1) Richard of Mitchelborne, b in Co Wicklow, ed by Dr Pigott, ent. TCD Nov 14 1733, aged 18, BA 1738; (2) Rev Jeremiah who succeeded him here, (3) a dau Elizabeth who predeceased him unm, (4) a dau Rachel, m Rev Holt Truell as his second wife. He d. in 1750. His P.will made Oct 22 17?? was proved in 1750. He left to his eldest son Richard, interest in the lands in Co.Louth and Milecastle, Co Wicklow, and £100 and all his interest in and to the woods on the lands at Ballyarthur, he paying £50 to his 2nd son Rev Jeremiah S, to his sister Ann Baisley, £25 and the use of any properties of his she now enjoys for life: mentions his dau Eliz. deceased. Leaves his son in law Rev Holt Truell and his wife Rachel £5 for mourning rings, he has given Truell a portion of £1,500 on their marriage which he says includes a legacy left Rachel by her grandmother Rachel Sandham. He leaves his son Rev Jeremiah, £500, charged on the lands of Rathlyn, Coppey, Co Carlow, out of which his (testator's) brother, John Symes is to get £400, bequeathed to him by Wm Baisley of Micketstown, Co Carlow. Rev Jerh. sole exor. Sutton Symes, Thomas Mear and Robert Jo?? witnesses."
