I Edward Richards of the pish of Brading in the Isle of Wight and county of South'ton Yeoman being sick in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be therefore given to Almighty God and calling to minde the uncertain estate of this transitory Life and that all men must ???? unto death when it shall please almighty God to call doe therefore make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and forme following. First and principally I committ my soule into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merritts, death and Passion of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of my my sins and to inherit Eternal Life and for what temporal estate it hath pleased God to bestow upon me farr above my deserts I doe give and dispose thereof as followeth. First I ??? that all my debts be paid with convenient time after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Richards one shilling to be paid unto him when he shall attain the age of one and twenty years. Item I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Margaret Richards tenn pounds per ann of lawful money to be paid unto her out of my land att Puckpoole immediately after the death and decease of my father Edward Richards for by and during the minority of my children or the Survivor of them. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonn Edward Richards and his heirs for ever all my houses and land in Portsmouth. Immediately after the death and decease of my wife and in case my said son Edward should chance to die without issue then I give and bequeath my said land in Portsmouth unto my daughter Elizabeth Richards and her heirs for ever and if my said daughter Elizabeth should happen to die without issue then I give and bequeath my said land att Portsmouth unto my sonn John Richards and his heirs for ever - all the rest and residue of my goods and chattles whatsoever after my debts and legacies are paid I doe give and bequeath unto my loving wife Margaret and to my sonn Edward Richards and to my daughter Elizabeth Richards whom I do make joynt full and whole Executors to this my last will and Testament equally to be divided between them - the one as farr forth as the other and my will is that if my Sonn Edward Richards or my daughter Elizabeth Richards should happen to die before they come of age or marrie then I give and bequeath his or her parte or share of my goods and Chattles to the survivor of my said sonn Edward or daughter and I doe desire my loving father Edward Richards of Puckpoole and my father in law Anthony Binsteed of Portsmouth Cooper to be overseers to this my last will and Testament desiring them to see my will performed and to be aideing and assisting to my executors and lastly I do hereby revoke and disall all former will and wills by me heretofore made and declared and this to be taken for my last will and testament ????? whereof I the said Edward Richards have to this my last will and testament set my hand seale the thirtieth day of December in the first year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord and Lady William and Mary by the grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland King and Queen defenders of the faith Anno Dom 1689. Signed sealed and declared to be the last will and testament of the said Edward Richards in the presence of: George Richards John Richards (illegible) 27 Day May 1690.
