Last will & testament Page 1 of Henry Maudslays last will and testament, as written. This is the last will and testament of Henry Maudslay of Cheltenham Place, Lambeth in the County of Surrey, Engineer. I do hereby give and bequeath to William Nicholson Esq of the City of Rochester, to John Bamber DeMole Esq of Merchant Tailors Hall in the City of London, to Wm Nicholson Jnr Esq, son of the aforesaid Wm Nicholson of the City of Rochester and to Thomas Glover Esq of Bishopsgate in the City of London and to the survivor or survivors of them and to the administrators, executors and assigns of such survivor, all and singular, my leasehold, messuages or tenements and dwelling houses, manufactories and shops, auctions and all other the premises and appurtenances situated at Cheltenham Place or elsewhere to hold to them for all the residue of the several forms/terms? of years? therein to ---- and -------- And I do also give and bequeath unto them the said William Nicholson Snr, John Bamber DeMole, Wm Nicholson Jnr and Thomas Glover the survivor of or survivors of them and the executors, administrators and assigns of such survivor all and singular the plant machinery implements, utensils in ha-- and property of every description belonging to me therein and theron and all my capital in the co-partnership concern now carrying on by me jointly with my oldest son, Thomas Henry Maudslay and Mr Joshua Field all and singular the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or description soever including the st--- hulk now laying at Woolwich and shares and interest in any steam boats funded properly or in any company such as the Thames Ship Building Company or other household furniture, plate, linen, china, wine, books, prints, pictures, curiosities, instruments, tools, works of art and carry other species of property of which I may sit possessed of upon trust to sell, dispose of and revert the same and every part of the said leasehold premises and other property hereby bequeathed to them into money within 6 calendar months after my decease whichsoever may first happen in such manner as they may think best either by auction or private contract and out of the proceeds thereof in the first place to pay all my funeral postfunerary expenses and private debts the partnership debts will of course be to be paid by the concern and in the next place to pay all and singular the legacies and annuities I may give by this will or by any codicil thereto and as to the net residue of my said estate after payment of the said expenses, debts and legacies and as soon as the amount can be ascertained my will is that the said residue be divided into twenty four equal parts and I hereby give and bequeath those shows in manner following, that is to say, the five twenty-fourth parts I intend for the use and benefit of my five grandchildren by my daughter MARGARET, now deceased, late the wife of Mr GEORGE JOHN JACKSON of Water Lo--- in the city of London, Ship Insurance Broker, the names of which are as follows viz. GEORGE MAUDSLAY JACKSON, WILLIAM, HENRY, MARGARET and JOHN STEWART in equal shares and proportions, the interest and dividends thereof to be applied for their maintenance and education during minority with power to the said trustees to advance any sum not exceeding one fourth part of the principal of each respective share as an appreciative fee or otherwise for the advancement of any or either of them in the world the principal to borrow divisible and payable to and among my said grandchildren my grandsons on their attaining 21 years of age and to my granddaughter MARGARET on her attaining that age or on her marriage and the show or shows of any one or more of them dying under age or without issue to go and be divided equally amongst the survivors and if but one survivor then the hole to go to such survivor and upon trust also five twenty-fourth parts or shares of the said residue to pay and apply the dividends, interest and profit unto my daughter, ISABEL, the wife of JOHN BAMBER DeMole Esq of merchant Taylors Hall, Solicitor, for her life and for the sole use and benefit apart from her present and any future husbands and so that she shall not anticipate the growing payment thereof and so that the same shall not be subject to the control, debts, charges or incumbrances of her present or any future husbands and her receipt allowed to be valid discharge and after the death of my said daughter, ISABEL upon trust to pay assign and transfer the same and the future interest dividends and profits thereof unto and amongst all and every the child and children of my said daughter ISABEL now born or thereafter to be born either in my lifetime or after my decease in equal shares the interest, dividends thereof to be applied for their maintenance and education during minority with power to the said trustees to advance any sum not exceeding one fourth part of the principal of each expectant share as an apprentice fee or otherwise for the advancement of any or either of them them in the world the principal to borrow divisible and payable to such of the children of my said daughter, SARAH, as shall be sons at their attaining the age of 21 and to such of them as shall be daughters on their attaining that age or marriage and the share or shares of any one or more of them dying under age and without issue to go to and be divided equally among the survivors or if but one the whole to go to that survivor. And I do give and bequeath unto my son, THOMAS HENRY MAUDSLAY that remainder missing
