Whitaker of Hesley & Palermo (p 540 says he was DD and chaplain a the British embassies in Paris and the Hague. Alumni Oxonienses (1715-1886) lists him as Jeans, Joshua son of Joshua of Christchurch, Hants, gent. Queen's College, matric 1772 aged 18 (ie born in 1754) His DD granted 1 Oct 1802 was from Edinburgh. His mother's will signed 20 May 1793 describes him as Vicar of Dibden, Hants. She left him £300. He resigned in 1796. He was Chaplain of the Episcopalian church in Rotterdam from 1802-1809 (source History of the Scottish Church, Rotterdam, page 282, publ 1833 by Rev William Steven)
