In 1841 census staying at Lamb Inn in parish of Llanboidy aged 29, Land Surveyor Living at Johnstown in 1851 Second marriage (1870) was "by licence": witnesses David Morgan Lewis & William Davies At 23 Union Street, Carmarthen from at least 1858 (Slater's directory) Death Cert - died of "Disease of Prostate Gland, 12 years." Certified and registered by James Rowlands FRCS of King Street, Carmarthen. Year of birth calculated from stated age in his death notice - 66 years The Carmarthen Journal of Friday 20 September includes an obituary for him: He was appointed surveyor to the Three Commott's district in 1851 and in May 1856 he was appointed to the Western division. He had been at the Union street Independent chapel on 25th August where he had been a deacon for many years The Carmarthen Journal of Friday 20 September reports the meeting of the Carmarthan District Road Board: "Mr James Bagnall paid a very high tribute of praise to the memory of the late Mr Rees Barrett, surveyor who had died since the last meeting of the board. The Chairman concurred in everything Mr Bagnall said, and said that they had been deprived of a very able and experienced public officer. Mr Carver said that he held in his hand a resolution which he would readand put to the meeting which was as follows " Resolved that this board cannot allow the present meeting to pass without unanimously recording their deep sense of loss they have sustained by the death of Mr Rees Barrett, surveyor. During the time Mr Barrett was turnpike surveyor of the County (upwards of a quarter of a century) he discharged the duties of his office with curtesy, ability and impartiality and to the entire satisfaction of the board. The Board also unanimously express with the bereaved family of the deceased in their affliction and desire their clerk to send a copy of this resolution to his widow."
