Captain of 66th Regiment Died in Canada Jan 23 1837. The notation says that he froze to death on his return from the village after festivities. He was drunk and was thrown from his horse. The gravestone was erected by John Maberly who was his officer and a founder of the St James on the Line cemetery. The 66th had occupied an island in Georgian Bay but there was a land settlement between the British and the Americans and the island was ceded to the Americans. The British Regiment vacated and moved to Penatanguishene where it stayed for a number of years and where some of the stone buildings are still standing. information from Ann Belanger.
